Taiwan-based display driver IC vendor Novatek Microelectronics plans to hire an additional 400-500 design engineers in 2022 while also increasing pay to expand its talent pool.

Novatek's vice chairman and president Steve Wang said his company will keep recruiting new talent in 2022 and beyond, stressing that both talent and foundry capacity are in highly short supply, with algorithm and AI talent, in particular, seeing the worst shortage.

Its vice president CH Chen also confirmed that Novatek will adjust its remuneration structures offering higher bonuses and inaugurating child-nursing allowances to effectively retain existing staff and attract new blood, starting November.

Novatek is following in the footsteps of MediaTek, which over the past six months has offered more than 2,000 job openings.
