One of the world's main IC industry clusters is being formed at the Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP), where TSMC operates its major manufacturing site for 5nm process technology.
TSMC has also disclosed plans to equip its STSP site with new fab tools for 3nm process technology, which will be ready for volume production in 2022. Both 5nm and 3nm are regarded as large and long-lasting nodes for the pure-play foundry.
TSMC will have 60-70% of manufacturing capacity located at the STSP between 2024 and 2025, company chairman Mark Liu was quoted as saying in previous reports.
Statistics from the STSP Bureau show that chipmakers generated a combined NT$97.96 billion (US$3.4 billion) in revenue during July and August accounting for 64.96% of the total revenue generated in the two months.
