Macroblock has developed miniLED backlighting driver ICs and is likely to begin volume shipments for such driver ICs for use in tablets, notebooks, gaming monitors and TVs in second-half 2021, according to company chairman Yang Li-chang.
Macroblock has developed full-array local dimming (FALD) miniLED driver ICs for use in direct-type backlighting, Yang said. FALD miniLED backlighting driver ICs suppot specifications of VESA DisplayHDR 1000/1400 and HDR10, Yang noted.
Six 48-channel 8-scan FALD mini LED backlighting driver ICs can drive 2,304 local dimming zones, compared to using 144 16-channel static LED backlighting driver ICs for the same purpose, Yang indicated. Besides, 2-layer PCBs with layout of 1,154 driver circuits are used for the former, while the latter entails 4-layer PCBs with layout of at least 2,305 driver circuits, Yang said, adding adopting Macroblock's driver ICs can lower production cost.
Macroblock has reported consolidated revenues of NT$191.8 million (US$6.8 million) for January, decreasing 6.71% sequentially but rising 0.35% on year.
