Motherson Sumi looking for semiconductor partner

Following Tata' and Vedanta's foraying into the semiconductor industry, Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, vice chairman of Samvardhana Motherson, India's leading auto wiring harness manufacturer, has said the group has set up a 300-acre industrial park in Chennai and is looking to partner with those with semiconductors technology if they are also looking for an Indian partner, according to The Economic Times.

 

Tejas Networks acquires fabless IC startup Saankhya Labs

According to an official press release, the networking equipment company Tejas Network will acquire a 64.4% stake in fabless IC startup Saankhya Labs for INR2,839.4 million (US$37.65 million) in cash in the first round and buy the remaining 35.6% shares in a merger process or a secondary acquisition. The deal highlights Tata Group, the owner of Tejas Networks, has been accelerating investments in the semiconductor sector.

 

CSOT ships made-in India display modules to Samsung

According to Jiwei, the display plant of CSOT in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh has shipped products to Samsung in late March, marking the first shipments of the plant after being put into production. The plant manufactures screens for large-size TV and mobile devices and represents India's first LCD panel module house covering the whole process from bonding to assembly.

 

Only 2-3 firms reportedly eligible for first-year subsidy to make PCs in India

According to The Economic Times, sources said that only Dell, Bhagwati, and perhaps Dixon Technologies meet the investment and production requirement for fiscal 2022 (April 2021 to March 2022) for Production Linked Incentive (PLI) for IT hardware, which covers incentives for investing and manufacturing notebooks, tablets, all-in-one PCs, and servers in India, indicating that other multinationals, such as Foxconn's subsidiary Bharat FIH, Wistron's subsidiary ICT, and Flex may not achieve the required target for the first year's subsidy.

 

India's mobile phone exports increase by 80% on-year

According to Business Standard, India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) estimated that India's mobile phone export would rise from US$3.16 billion in fiscal 2021 (April 2020 to March 2021) to US$5.7 billion in fiscal 2022, a more than 80% growth on-year, highlighting India's rise as a global mobile production hub.
